What is Submental Liposuction?
Submental liposuction, also called chin liposuction, is a double chin removal. The process involves the suctioning out of chin fat with a thin tube called a cannula. The Liposuction Process
During the procedure, we make small incisions under your chin and behind your ears, if necessary, and insert a cannula that is attached to a vacuum into each incision. We move the cannula under your skin through the fat layer, breaking it up and removing it. When finished, we close each incision with sutures.
Before Surgery
You’ll be wearing a chin strap 24 hours a day for the first week after surgery, so make arrangements ahead of time to take those days off from work and rest and heal from your surgery.
During Surgery
Double chin liposuction is an in-office, out-patient procedure that takes less than an hour. Dr. Haralson gently numbs the treatment area with a local anesthetic, so you remain awake. We have anxiety-relieving medication on hand that you can take if you choose.
After Surgery
Once we’ve finished with the chin lipo surgery, we provide you with aftercare instructions and a supportive chin strap to keep your skin in place as it heals. You’ll want to take it easy and avoid strenuous activity for 10 days after surgery. Expect a small amount of bruising and swelling. This is normal and will subside as your skin tightens up.
Recovery and Results
Chin liposuction tends to consistently provide impressive results that are long-lasting, especially if your skin has good elasticity. After surgery, you will almost immediately see a difference in chin size, and after a few months, a new slimmer jawline will be visible. Swelling post-treatment is normal and should not last more than a few weeks. The final results can take up to six months.
